カイロの猫たちの記録 モスクワの雪 Heather Hermit
モスクワ出身で現在、エジプトのカイロで生活しているデザイナーのヘザー・ハーミット（Heather Hermit）さんは２匹の猫と暮らしています。そんな彼女がある日、仕事場に行く道で出会ったのが死にかけていた子猫のラムセスでした。彼女は子猫を引き取って病院に連れていき、やがて故郷のモスクワの実家で引き取ることにしたのでした。以下はハーミットさんからの便りです。
Ramses II, the rescued egyptian cat now lives in Moscow. This time of the year he is experiencing his first cold winter and real snow. First in autumn he got sick because of cold weather and had to take medication. But now he is becoming more Russian and starts to enjoy the snow which is as white as his fur.
エジプトで衰弱していたのを保護された子猫のラムセスは（すっかり大きくなって）現在、モスクワで暮らしています。ちょうどこの季節、彼は初めての寒い冬と本物の雪を経験しているのです。まず秋にラムセスは寒さで病気になり、薬を飲まなくてはなりませんでした。しかし、今では次第にロシアの猫となりつつあり、毛の色と同じく白い雪を楽しみ始めているのです。
Every day Ramses II goes for a morning walk in the garden checking if everything is fine on his territory. He already made lots of friends among the local female cats. As we know ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II had a great number of children: between 48 and 50 sons, and 40 to 53 daughters. Probably the cat Ramses II is trying to compete with his great ancestor in this field...
毎朝、ラムセスは庭を歩き回ってはテリトリーに異変がないかをチェックしています。ラムセスにはすでに地域のたくさんの雌猫の友達ができています。古代エジプトのファラオだったラムセス２世には実にたくさんの子供がいました。その数は息子が４８人から５０人に上り、娘は４０人から５３人に上ります。猫のラムセスもエジプトの王に挑戦しているのでしょう。
