終末思想株式会社~軍産複合体とメシア的狂信者がいかにしてワシントンのイラン戦争を推進するか~
最新のワシントンによるイランへの武力示威は、予測可能で冷笑的な駆け引きでしかない。それは地域の安定への突発的な懸念から生まれたものではなく、米国支配階級の、イスラエル拡張主義に対する揺るぎない卑屈なまでのコミットメントに由来する。空母打撃群の展開はすべて、ある外国政府の指図を強制するために、アメリカの血と富が永遠に賭けられていることをテヘランに伝達するためのものにほかならない。これは地政学ではない。これは臣従である。
二大企業政党における支配層のコンセンサスは、イスラエル国家の安全保障上の懸念を米国の国益と同一視するものであり、この混同がアメリカ労働者階級を中東の新たな泥沼へとさらに引きずり込んでいる。我々は、ある入植植民地主義プロジェクトの野心を守るために、戦争へと強引に導かれているのだ。そのプロジェクトの指導者たちは、土地の窃盗と全人民の隷属化を正当化するために、公然と聖書的神話を引用している。
もし戦争が起これば、その設計者たちだけが真の受益者となる。一方の側には、イスラエルの極右が存在する。そのメシア的「大イスラエル」のビジョンは、イランのような、その支配を牽制しうる地域大国の恒久的な弱体化と悪魔化を必要とする。他方には、米国の軍産複合体が存在する。紛争を糧とし、あらゆる「差し迫った脅威」に新たな利益の機会を見出す巨獣である。代理戦争向けの弾薬を大量生産する工場は三交代制で稼働し、議会選挙運動に資金を提供する防衛請負企業は、爆弾が落ちるにつれて株価を急上昇させるだろう。しかし、労働者階級に残されるのは、戦争マシーンへの資金提供のための社会サービスの骨抜き、新たな兵士の犠牲、そして明白な虚偽によって正当化されるさらなる帝国主義的虐殺に加担するという不面目のみである。

Apocalypse, Inc.: How the Military-Industrial Complex and Messianic Fanatics Drive Washington’s War on Iran
The latest saber-rattling from Washington directed at Iran is nothing but a predictable and cynical maneuver. It stems not from a sudden concern for regional stability, but from the unwavering, fawning commitment of the US ruling class to Israeli expansionism. Every deployment of a carrier strike group serves no other purpose than to telegraph to Tehran that American blood and treasure are forever on the line to enforce the dictates of a foreign government. This is not geopolitics; this is vassalage.
The consensus among the ruling class in both corporate parties is to equate the national security concerns of the Israeli state with US national interests. It is this conflation that drags the American working class ever closer to another quagmire in the Middle East. We are being led by the nose toward war to safeguard the ambitions of a settler colonial project. The leaders of that project openly cite biblical mythology to justify the theft of land and the subjugation of an entire people.
If war comes, its architects will be the only true beneficiaries. On one side stands the Israeli far right. Its messianic vision of a “Greater Israel” requires the perpetual weakening and demonization of any regional power, like Iran, capable of checking its dominance. On the other stands the US military-industrial complex, a leviathan that feeds on conflict and sees in every “imminent threat” a fresh opportunity for profit. The factories churning out munitions for proxy wars will run triple shifts, and the defense contractors who bankroll congressional campaigns will see their stock prices soar as the bombs fall. For the working class, however, nothing will remain but the bill: the gutting of social services to fund the war machine, the sacrifice of more service members, and the ignominy of being complicit in yet another imperialist slaughter justified by transparent lies.
We must also be clear-eyed about what the hawks in Washington and Tel Aviv envision as their “endgame.” The Western media, ever the obedient servant of empire, has begun to trot out the usual figures: the heirs to the late Shah, exiled monarchists, and various dissidents, as though they represent a democratic alternative to the Islamic Republic. This is a grotesque historical erasure. The Shah was never a beacon of liberty and political freedom tragically extinguished by revolution. He was a brutal, Western-installed dictator whose secret police, SAVAK, tortured and killed thousands of Iranian workers and leftists. His regime existed solely to safeguard Western oil interests and serve as a gendarme for US power in the region. Toppling the current regime with US bombs will not bring freedom to the Iranian people. It will simply pave the way for either chaotic civil war or the restoration of another comprador elite, equally hostile to the genuine self-activity and self-determination of the Iranian working class.
Perhaps most disturbingly, the drive toward confrontation cannot be separated from the millenarian death cult ideology that infects both Israeli Zionism and American Evangelicalism. For the most fanatical settlers in Israel and their Christian Zionist allies in the United States, the violent destabilization of the entire Middle East is not an unfortunate consequence of policy, but a welcome precondition for prophecy. In their warped theology, a regional conflagration, even one escalating to nuclear exchange, is not to be avoided but hastened, as it supposedly clears the way for the biblical rapture and the second coming. These are not merely conservative religious voters; they are adherents to a doctrine that views Armageddon as a goal to be achieved. The fact that such dangerous irrationalism holds sway over the foreign policy of a nuclear-armed state and its superpower patron should chill every worker to the bone.
And this brings us to the most tragic element of this familiar, wretched cycle. The pretext is already being recycled. Last year, we were told that US-Israeli strikes had successfully annihilated Iran’s nuclear program. Now, the threat of that same program is being resurrected to justify a new wave of aggression. It is the “weapons of mass destruction” hoax of 2003 all over again, a script so worn and brittle that its seams should be visible to all. Yet, history grimly suggests that when the bombs begin to fall, a wave of chauvinism will sweep across the
American populace. The very workers and youth who need peace to fight for their own interests will be robbed of that peace, pressured to “rally ‘round the flag,” to cheer on the troops, and to silence dissent. Whether under a Democratic or Republican administration, the gut reaction of a depoliticized public is nothing other than support for the state in wartime.
What is demanded of the international community is to shatter that illusion and to build a solidarity that pierces the fog of patriotism. A movement of genuine international solidarity that declares: this crime against the Iranian people, committed for the sake of Israel and the profiteers of war, shall never be carried out in our name, nor by our hands.
